Weekly Wrap Up - Week of Nov 15th 2024
Here's a quick recap and what's next for Book Crumbs
In the last 7 days since the election I have lost all sense of time. I can’t believe it has only been a week. The functioning word for me this week has definitely been duality. I have had to hold space for my grief and rage while also carving out space for joy, hope and celebration. As a creative person I have wanted nothing more than to use my skills and talents to create things I’m passionate about but I have had to respect my body asking me for rest.
Here is a quick wrap up of everything happing with Book Crumbs and the exciting things thats to come!
Im so grateful to every single one of you here on Substack!

Twenty years ago, we opened our doors to the first woman who had been sexually assaulted by soldiers of opposing forces. Little did we know how continually needed our expertise would be—and how much we’ve grown.
Today, we’ve treated more than 85,000 women suffering from rape- or birth-related complications, with thousands regaining their whole selves through our innovative, holistic healing model.
We also serve as a general hospital for nearly 500,000 underserved people, from treating broken bones to cancer.
We have grown from that roomful of civil libertarians to more than 1.7 million members. The ACLU today is the nation's largest public interest law firm, with a 50-state network of staffed, autonomous affiliate offices. We appear before the United States Supreme Court more than any other organization except the U.S. Department of Justice. About 100 ACLU staff attorneys collaborate with about 2,000 volunteer attorneys in handling close to 2,000 cases annually.
The ACLU is non-profit and non-partisan. We do not receive any government funding. Member dues and contributions and grants from private foundations and individuals pay for the work we do. The ACLU, with headquarters in New York City, litigates across the nation and all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Our Washington, D.C., legislative office lobbies the U.S. Congress. We use strategic communications to educate the public about issues. And the ACLU has expanded its reach by applying international human rights standards in our complex Post 9/11 world. A number of national projects address specific civil liberties issues: AIDS, capital punishment, lesbian and gay rights, immigrants' rights, prisoners' rights, reproductive freedom, voting rights, women's rights and workplace rights.

39% of LGBTQ+ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. We’re responding to the public health crisis of suicide among LGBTQ+ young people by building a safer, more inclusive world.

Point of Pride was founded by the leadership of Point 5cc, a clothing and apparel company by and for trans folks.
Since 2011, Point 5cc had donated a portion of proceeds of every order to an Annual Transgender Surgery Fund. Point 5cc also began one of the first and largest international chest binder donation programs as well as a breast form donation program.
Demand for support from the community grew quickly, far outpacing what the small company was able to provide.
That’s why we formed Point of Pride in 2016—an independent sibling non-profit organization with a dedicated team to grow our fundraising efforts, help more members of our community feel affirmed and celebrated, and speak out for the need for inclusive and supportive changes in our society.
Since then, Point of Pride has awarded almost half a million dollars in direct financial assistance and donated thousands of gender-affirming garments to trans youth and adults in all 50 states and around the world.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. (PPFA) works to protect and expand access to sexual and reproductive health care and education, and provides support to its member affiliates. Planned Parenthood affiliates are separately incorporated public charities that operate health centers across the U.S. as trusted sources of health care and education for people of all genders in communities across the country.
And if you are looking to donate to your local library you can find out how to do that through any online search engine like google. Look up libraries near you. Most libraries allow you to donate online or by mail.
Thank you for joining me on this weeks wrap up! I can’t wait to see what next week has in store!
